
Lucy Sabb, ’99
Lucille Frierson Sabb is the daughter of Barbara Frierson of Lynchburg, SC, and the late Walker S. Frierson. She is married to Timothy Sabb and is a Senior Manager in the market access division with Alexion Pharmaceuticals, an AstraZeneca Rare Disease company where she combats access barriers for patients so that they can gain therapy. She is a graduate of Claflin University and South Carolina State University where she received a B.S Degree and M.A Degree respectively.
Lucy who she is affectionally referred to is the Founder of Women Who, which is an organization that empowers women through advancement opportunities in the pharmaceutical industry. She is a member of the Women of Color in Pharma and the National Black MBA Association. She is one of the co-founders and current Vice Chair of the Black Professionals Network at Alexion Pharmaceuticals.
She is a member of the Charlotte Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated and has served in various chapter, regional and national roles. She is currently member of the National Leadership Academy for Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. She is a graduate of the Delta Fellows Leadership Development Program and received the South Atlantic Regional Advisor of the Year for Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
She is a life member of the National Alumni Association of Claflin University and serves as President of the Charlotte Chapter of Claflin University Alumni Association. Her leadership has led the chapter’s growth to more than 400% in less than one year. She serves as member of the Claflin University Board of Visitors and has served as a member of the First Ladies Hats & Gloves Tea Steering Committee. She has and continues to mentor students at Claflin University and served as the liaison with her organization to ensure that Claflin University was a part of the HBCU Initiative. This initiative provided opportunities for students to be interviewed for internships that could lead to full-time roles. She is the Claflin University Class of 1998 Class Agent in which her class raised more than $25,000 in honor of their Silver Class Reunion. She is also a 2023 Member of the Claflin University Hall of Fame.
In her community, she has served as a member of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools Equity Committee, Charlotte Mecklenburg Community Relations Committee, Black Political Caucus. She has served as a former Girl Scout Troop Leader and volunteers at various nursing homes and Soup Kitchens. She is an active member of St. Marks United Methodist Church where she has served as member of the Transformation Journey team and the Nominations and Leadership Development team.
Professionally, she received the Collaboration Award with Sanofi Genzyme Pharmaceuticals. She received the Hidden Gem Award and Living the Legacy Award with Alexion Pharmaceuticals. She has six siblings (Al, Donald, Stephanie, and Lisa) and two of them (Veronica and Bernita) are Claflin University graduates. She has a plethora of nieces and nephews and 4 Godchildren. In her spare time, she spends time with family, loves to travel, shop, and plan events. She lives by the motto: “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”
Melissa Lindsay-Mayers, ’02
Melissa Lindsay-Mayers is a senior product delivery and program management leader with more than 20 years of experience driving strategic execution, leadership development, and organizational growth within the telecommunications industry while leading enterprise initiatives that align business strategy with operational outcomes.Throughout her career, Melissa has held progressive leadership roles spanning product delivery, program management, sales leadership, and workforce development. She is known for building high-performing teams, developing leaders, and translating complex organizational priorities into scalable, results-driven solutions. Her work has supported large, enterprise environments through change management, cross-functional collaboration, and people-centered leadership.Melissa is a 2002 honors graduate of Claflin University, where she made history as the institution’s first graduate to receive a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management. Additionally, she holds several certifications in Human Resources Management and Lean Six Sigma. Melissa is very active with her sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and also serves on the Board of Directors for The WICT Network: Carolinas, where she is committed to advancing mentorship, leadership development, and professional growth.Melissa resides in Charlotte, NC with her husband Steven and daughters Mia and Brooklyn.
